Ponoka is a town in central Alberta, Canada. It is located on the southern banks of the Red Deer River, approximately midway between Edmonton and Calgary. The population was 6,871 at the 2016 census. Ponoka is surrounded by rich agricultural land and is home to a large number of dairy cows.

The first people to live in the area were the native Cree and Blackfoot peoples. The town was founded in 1882 by John Alexander McDougall, who named it after Chief Pah-nooka-wapah (White Buffalo Bull). Ponoka became a railway town in 1903 when the Canadian Northern Railway built a line through it.
